Google begins blurring out face on Street View
by: Sarah

Google Street View

So, what do you guys think about the Street View application that Google launched, pretty cool right? Well, how about if your face was on it? Would you care?

Personally I wouldn’t care if my face was on Street View, actually I think it would be pretty neat. I even asked my roommate and we came to the conclusion that the only people who are complaining are those who were caught cheating due to Google Street View. Maybe not, but imagine the scenario:

Girl: So, what were you doing last week?

Boy: Oh nothing, I was out with some buddies at the bar.

Girl: No you weren’t I saw you on Google Street View kissing some girl, IT’S OVER!

Boy: But that was 6 months ago…

Ty Colfax over at G4TV’s blog says, “Google has started blurring faces from its Street View feature, and let me tell you, it’s not a moment too soon.”

Hmm, do you guys care if your face is on Google Street View? If so, why is it on Facebook, MySpace, Flickr and Digg?

Oh boy, I just found this YTMND… Hilarious.

April Fool’s day headlines
by: Sarah

April Fool’s Day Donna BlueApril Fool’s, another day where people can make asses out of one another without being a jerk.

Woot.com has yet to sell out of their Black & Decker CP120B 20 Watt Power Backup Battery Pack – 2 pack for $14.99, Google pranksters are offering, “A Cool World: Enjoy a rosier future as a ,” Pizza Hut changed their name to Pasta Hut in light of their delicious pasta. There are many other pranksters out there, but these were a few of the bigger guys on the internet, every nerd needs a Woot gadget, Google’s awesome engine and pizza to fuel their typing fingers.

With all the skeptical people today, there is an article I found that claims some of today’s most bogus-sounding stories are true.

  1. Pay-Per-View Funerals
  2. A turtle addicted to nicotine
  3. Cause of menopause
  4. Injection allows for bigger and better orgasms for women
  5. UK enlarges their school desk to fit the masses
  6. Wind turbines or solar panels by UK companies work towards Britain’s renewable energy target
  7. Teeth tattoo’s are coming out soon
  8. T’ai Chi can help diabetes
  9. Thief steals 2 foot alligator from busy Norwegian aquarium
  10. People are banned from calling barmaids “love” in pubs

BBC’s news site gave this list of true, as the say, stories of the day.

No Google mapping of U.S. Military Bases
by: Sarah

google mapsFor those looking for the inside view of those super cool military bases using Google Maps Street View then your plans have been thwarted!  The Pentagon has announced the ban of Google Earth teams driving on their bases to make a detailed street-level video map.

All of the Defense Department bases and installations around the country received the message to not allow the Google teams on their facilities.

Michael Kucharek, spokesman for U.S. Northern Command, told The Associated Press on Thursday that the decision was made after crews were allowed access to at least one base. He said military officials were concerned that allowing the 360-degree, street-level video could provide sensitive information to potential adversaries and endanger base personnel.

Google Maps may zoom a little too close

Mozilla’s Rise Up music video promoting Firefox
by: Sarah

Mozilla made a viral video to promote their already popular web browser. The video on its own is pretty sad, but no matter what I still love Firefox.

The people who have commented on the video already is pretty much saying the same thing, they agree that Firefox is the best, but the video is super cheesy.

Tay Zonday got another break when he was featured in this song. I just had Cherry Chocolate Rain stuck in my head the other day, not that the song is good.

At the end of the video it advertises their campaign website, fightagainstboredom.org, but after trying to go to it I realized it was passworded.

So I searched in Google for it, and the only thing known as of right now is a blog that said that it is password protected by LDAP. Hmm? Having problems with the campaign Mozilla?

Update: So I was searching more into the video, and noticed others were having issues with the music video, and the campaign.  This is what I found to be the problem most people had.

Among the off-beat — and unverifiable — statistics that took shots at IE were those that claimed Firefox users are:

  • 15% more likely to have watched cartoons on TV within the last seven days;
  • 21% less likely to fish.

Also in the mix, however, were several that users called out as far from funny:

  • 23% less likely to have cancer;
  • 25% less likely to have breast cancer;
  • 20% less likely to live with others suffering from cancer.

Later the same article went on to say:

Paul Kim, Mozilla’s vice president of marketing, stepped in to do damage control. “There is no way we would have gone live with a site that mocks cancer victims if there had been a review of these stats beforehand,” said Kim. “Something went seriously wrong with our content development process, and I’m working to clean this up now.” Kim said that the site and the list were supposed to be locked behind a password until they had been checked and approved.

But, why was the sight available and they apologized after all the comments have been made?  Hmm?
