Ex-Zillow employees launch Eggsprout
by: Stuart

eggsproutGood luck to these guys and anyone in a startup or looking for a job should read about this one and they are just around the corner from me:

Every so often I come across some entrepreneur who reminds me why it is so much fun covering this beat. That happened Tuesday when I sat down with the energetic founders of Eggsprout, a Bellevue startup that is trying to transform the way people find jobs online.

It wasn’t so much the business. After all, enough people have attempted to revolutionize the job search category over the years(Jobster, anyone?) What caught my attention was the passion and drive exhibited by Brian Ma and Hsu Ken Ooi — the former University of Washington whizzes — that are leading Eggsprout.

They’re young (all five employees are under the age of 25); smart (Ma graduated early from the UW with a dual degree in computer science and electrical engineering); thrifty (the Bellevue basement where they work has limited heat); and hungry (They are foregoing salaries, surviving on chicken nuggets.)

Furthermore, the Eggsprout team — which is launching their service today after months of development and less than $10,000 in startup costs  — are not letting something like the worst economic recession in years stand in their way.

Google Phone vs. 3G iPhone as seen on Ramsey Mohsen
by: Stuart

Here is a video doing a show down of the Google G1 and the iPhone.

Basic in office testing, something you might not see on cnet.

The verdict is not clear but I had no idea that both phones took so long to load. That would drive me nuts. The pocket test that I think both fail on.

It was a find on the Spiral16 blog, that is about a Darwin quote that pointed me to the post on www.rameymohsen.com .

I’m still only interested in my phone being a good phone at this point, I will give hardware and networks another year before I have a primary phone that’s got all the cool feature. I’m on T-Mobile so I will likely go with the Google G1 since it’s getting good reviews for a first version.

Speaking of cnet, here are the reviews of the 3G iPhone and the Google G1:

Geico | Caveman Beach
by: Stuart

I’m really wishing they would let these caveman commercials from Geico die off. They are not evolving into anything funny.

If they do, I will surely eat my words. Here are some other Geico posts:

Geico NASCAR Commercial | Mike Wallace and Cousin is still by far my fav.
Geico’s worst caveman commercial
Geico Cavemanscrib.com
Geico Caveman Commercials - Again
SNL | ABC’s Geico Caveman Series
ABC’s Cavemen A Comedy Adapted From Geico Insurance Commercials
Geico Caveman

Mini Cows
by: Stuart

This is so cool. I have seen miniature ponies, we have even posted a commercial that got some people leaving lots of comments: Verizon Pony Commercial

I had never seen a miniature cow but now I want one. As a pet, for the milk and little steaks. Found on MSN Green.

GE Ecomagination | Hot Doctor
by: Stuart

So the title is shallow but if I had a doctor like her, I would go weekly.

This commercial for GE Ecomagination ran during the Olympics and is really very sweet. Young love.

The "advance medical imaging technology from GE" sound uninteresting but as a regular visitor to the image lab, I find this a smart way to highlight how I should care about looking for the GE logo. I know it’s not that easy or that simple.

I did work creative work for WelchAllyn for a while and I do look for the logo when I’m waiting for the doc. Old habits die hard.

More Ecomagination commercials, going back to 2005:

GE Ecomagination Watering Can
Olympic Commercial | GE Ecomagination Dragon
GE Energy
GE Ecomagination Again Dancing Elephants
GE Ecomagination

GE Ecomagination Watering Can
by: Stuart

GE Ecomagination as promised from the last post. More to come.

This is yet another creative idea that has its focus on innovation and imagination at work.

Everything about this commercial works for me, the music is perfect, the art direction and CGI is dead on.

It’s a very artful way of describing the reason for the commercial, GE helps provide billions of gallons of clean water each year.

Rotten Apple? | Is Apple Ready For That Many Users?
by: Stuart

I personally think that Apple is not ready and has not been prepared for mass success. Even the kill-switch and 3G connection problems will piss off the most zealot Apple fan boys and girls:

From the Slate (full story here):

The half-price fib has been obvious for some time: When you add the price of AT&T’s required two-year contract, the new phone costs slightly more than the old phone. In a lawsuit filed last week, an iPhone owner named Jessica Alena Smith argues that Apple hasn’t been honest about the phone’s speed, either. Smith, echoing thousands of complaints logged on Apple’s Web site, says that her iPhone rarely connects to AT&T’s fast 3G network, instead staying fixed to the pokey EDGE service that was the bane of the first iPhone. Smith’s iPhone doesn’t just fail on tasks like downloading e-mail and surfing the Web, she says. It also drops many of her voice calls.

Smith lives in Birmingham, Ala., but I’ve had the same problem with my iPhone 3G in cell-tower-rich San Francisco—more dropped calls than I’ve ever had on a cell phone (including on the original iPhone) and terribly spotty 3G service. Last month, I raved about the great third-party programs available on the iPhone’s fantastic built-in App Store. But I’ve since soured on that system, too. As many iPhone owners have noticed, the phone often mysteriously refuses to load these apps, rendering them useless. Smith is asking a judge to grant her lawsuit class-action status. I hope it’s approved. Apple has reluctantly acknowledged flaws in the iPhone and has , but there’s no sign that it’s taking the complaints very seriously. The lawsuit might be just the kick it needs to fix the world’s broken iPhones.

But the company’s troubles go beyond the iPhone. Last month, Apple launched MobileMe, a $100-per-year online service that aimed to sync documents and e-mail across computers and Internet devices. MobileMe failed spectacularly in its opening weeks, with some users reporting losing years of saved e-mail. In a widely circulated post, Techcrunch’s Michael Arrington claimed last week that Apple’s PCs aren’t doing so well either. Arrington, a longtime Apple fan, says he’s had four new Macs break in different ways—one refused to connect to Wi-Fi networks, one suffered a keyboard flaw, and two shut down mysteriously…

Do go read it all, it is an interesting POV.

Come on Samsung Instinct, it’s time for a “I’m a iPhone and I’m Instinct” commercial parody.

Olympics Commercial | AT&T Phelps Phan
by: Stuart

Over the years, AT&T has done some very good commercials and this one is up there.

I think it’s a clever phanatic Phelps phan perspective of the phone network not working.

The room is plastered with images, memorabilia but didn’t get the call that Michael Phelps was just down the street signing autographs, taking pictures and eating Chinese food. So, a good Olympic tie in and a successful commercial.

Sprint Instinct | Scary Movie Product Placement
by: Stuart

I have not been a fan of Sprint commercials but this one is pretty good.

Sprint is really pushing the Samsung Instinct for good reason. It’s a great mobile device (via Gizmodo) and they need to get some traction against AT&T and iPhone 3G release.

With the new 3G iPhone having issues connection to the AT&T network and the recently release Apple “kill switch” Sprint and others should attack while the press is a little sketchy on the iPhone, which I’m sure they will figure out shortly.

Here is another story that went out today:

The Best Sprint Commercial

I think this one was Nextel first, before the merger.

It’s not new but I think it’s still the best even if it’s a borrowed spot.

I know we have posted it before, here on DHADM or Transbuddha. I don’t care, it’s that good.
