Six-legged cat born in Florida
by: Sarah

Hex, the six-week, old six-legged kitten is looking for publicity to help her owners afford surgery to remove the extra appendages. Hex was supposed to be a twin and when the two didn’t separate in the womb, Hex came out with 6 legs.

Hex reminds me of the story of Henry the Hexapus, the 6-legged freak in a 8-legged world.

Henry the Hexapus, the 6-legged freak in a 8-legged world
by: Sarah

Henry the HexapusNothing better than seeing the World’s first 6-legged octopus, or a hexapus. I love marine life, marine biology was one of my many dreams as an aspiring college student. But I quickly snuffed that dream as I came to realize I live in Kansas, and well… let’s face it, I probably won’t see the sea for a few years. Either way, one of my favorite things about marine life was the fascinating Order Octopoda, they go directly under and . Okay seriously I have strange interests, but back the Henry.

‘Henry’ was picked up from a local zoo along with seven other octopodes for a new exhibit at the center. No one noticed his missing legs until he attached himself inside of his glass tank.

They named him ‘Henry’ because it alliterated well with ‘hexapus.’

“It has also been mentioned in the grapevine that he was named after King Henry the VIII who had six wives when he should have had eight,” Filmer, the centre’s marketing director, said.

Octopods often lose limbs from fights and various other dangerous situations, but they always grow back. The neat thing about Henry is that he has webbing in between each limb, showing that there is no room for the missing two limbs to grow back. Henry the hexapus will forever be a 6-limbed freak. Love it!
