German woman held after dead infants were found in basement freezer

Wenden, Germany

What a story to wake up to, this mother from Germany is being held by police after one of her three grown children tipped them off about three dead infants. Autopsies are being done to figure out how the children had died. The infants were found Sunday night in the town of Wenden, near Olpe.

The 44-year-old woman, who name was not released, was taken into custody on suspicion that she killed the children.

The woman, her 47-year-old husband, and three grown children — two sons, aged 18 and 22 and a 24-year-old daughter — have lived for years in the town.

Sadly this isn’t uncommon, a number of similar stories come out of Germany.

In February, police were called to a home in northern Germany where a dead infant was discovered in the cellar.

In January, a 28-year-old German woman was charged with manslaughter after the remains of three babies were discovered in her house and the home of a relative. That woman has denied killing the three babies.

Another woman was convicted of manslaughter in 2006 for killing eight of her newborn babies and burying them in flower pots and a fish tank in the garden of her parents’ home near the German-Polish border.

An Intelligent dashboard turns off distractions
by: Sarah

smartdashboardAnother smart car gadget is in the works, this time its a dashboard that switches off the distractions while you drive.  We have all seen the cars that brake, steer and park for you, now they turn off your iPods, radios and TVs.  Not that you should have televisions in your car, you could end up crying because Dumbo lost his mom and run off the road.  Either way, this gadget will come in handy, especially for those parents out there worrying about their 16 year-old driving, fiddling with their iPod, turning the radio on or watching the TV that their parents watched when they last took the Range Rover out.

Research done by a crew at the Technical University of Berlin has shown that a “smart dashboard” could one day deactivate distractions within the vehicle in order to improve driver response if things simply get too hectic.

As for this smart dashboard, does it switch off the screaming kids?  To me, that is the biggest distraction, they need to have limo windows options in cars.
