This Must Be A Joke | MSFT Songsmith
by: Stuart

Sadly it might not be a joke and someone actually thought it was clever. Songsmith is an interesting idea but this is not the way to show it off.

I watched it all in hopes that Ricky Gervais walked out and gave everyone a backhanded compliment.

Thanks for the link Dane.

Greg The Millionaire | Secret Millionaire
by: Stuart

I have only seen a couple of these shows on FOX but they have made me cry each time. I’m a push over for emotional stuff that involves decent people that try hard to make it.

The clip is long and it cover 3 people that Greg helps out. I hope he continues with helping beyond the Fox show.

Life has a funny way of playing complicated and distracting POVs on you and things like this clip should help everyone understand how lucky they are and how much they can help others.

Vern Fonk, Worst Commercial of 2008? | Regional Badness
by: Stuart

If a commercial is only seen in local/regional areas, can it been viewed as nationally bad? With the ability to post it all online, yes.

Vern Fonk has done some (hopefully deliberately bad commercials over the years I have been in Seattle) and they just keep coming. Maybe he should get credit for having the balls to be this bad. Check out his site www.vernfonk.com, he doesn’t care. I respect that, although the ads are wonderfully bad.

Lets face it, if his ads looked and had the concepts of other insurance companies…I wouldn’t even know his existed. The question is, can I take him seriously when it comes to insurance?

Here are the others:

Bad, Bad Ad | Vern Fonk

Honk for Fonk (Brett posted in 2006, this is not new badness)

DQ Man Mouth
by: Stuart

This commercial is really starting to bother me.

It’s the voice behind those lips. It just seem so odd to have a man’s announcer type voice behind the cartoon lips/mouth.

Maybe that is the point, I don’t know. Any DQ ad guys out there that can tell us why this voice with that visual.

becomeanex.org Woman Jumps for Cigarette
by: Stuart

This commercial is brutal but gets the point across in a great way.

Imagine what you would do for one more drag…and then become an ex.

Check out the site: becomeanex.org

Chevy Importitis
by: Stuart

This is only one of the reasons I don’t buy American cars.

With the bailout of the big 3 US automakers, I hope the get competitive in both engineering, design and marketing.

by: Stuart

Pretty damn funny commercial from Stanley Steemer. “Stop it Toby,” too funny.

Stride Gum | Ram Attack
by: Stuart

I like the Stride Gum commercials, they are quirky and unpredictable.

Not bad for gum, The Ridiculously Long Lasting Gum…that is.

Looks like they have redone the web site (bout time) to reflect the advertising.

Go kill a few minutes at: www.stridegum.com

FIFA 09 Commercial | So Bad I Change the Channel
by: Stuart

This commercial is so annoying I turn off the audio or change the channel.  So enjoy.

FIFA 09, from EA Sports, could have been such cool commercial. If MSFT’s Xbox360 put partner funds into the creation of this spot, get your money back.

Anyone else hate this commercial, am I overreacting?

Microsoft Makeover Working? Not So Much from Seattle Metropolitan Magazine
by: Stuart

msft010

I do like the , they usually have great articles on architecture and dining. I’m not sure I agree with MC on this one. MSFT does seem to follow on some things but if you look at what LiveLabs is doing, Windows Live Writer (this is one of the most useful tools they give away), Photosynth and Seadragon then you might look at them a little different. I think that MSFT should be focused on the innovative stuff they are doing.

If MSFT spent some ad dollars on the things I have listed, which would be cool to work on (speaking as a creative director for a second) they could show how innovative and forward thinking they really are - in some ways anyway.
