Sex and the City Movie

Sex and the City: The Movie

Update:  I just bought the soundtrack and I LOVE it!!

I went to see Sex and the City on Friday night and I have to say that it was everything that I hoped it would be.   I was delighted to see the characters back together and in their normal glamourous style!  I won’t reveal any details on movie, but I will admit that I did cry, gasp, laugh.  Not everything was fun and games, just like in the series, the drama was large and I ended up mad at four characters at some point in the movie.

Go watch the movie, it is well worth the $10.00 fee!

December over on our sister site Razorfine did up a little review for the release, but I disagree with the rating personally, I’d give it at least a 4.5.  Plus, she goes off on the fact that her neighbors in the theater made her have a bad experience.

Sex and the City is growing nearer

French Skydiver lost his balloon
by: Sarah

Fournier\'s Helium-filled balloon escaping

I read this story a day or two ago about a French skydiver who planned to break four world records at once as he leapt from a balloon in the Earth’s stratosphere.

The former paratrooper had hoped to set new marks for the highest jump, fastest free fall, longest free fall and the highest altitude reached by a man in a balloon.

Michel Fournier, a 64 year old and current French record holder for highest parachute jump at 40,000 feet, was hoping to break the highest jump, fastest free fall, longest free fall and highest altitude reached by a man in a balloon records on Tuesday.

Still clad in his bright yellow pressure suit, the visibly frustrated Fournier waved away cameras after his ride slipped away shortly after 5 a.m. (7 a.m. ET). There was no immediate word on how the effort was botched, but his flight crew was attempting to recover the balloon, according to his official Web site

Apparently Fournier has spent the last twenty years and nearly $20 million on this adventure, how disappointing would that be to witness your extremely expensive stratospheric balloon float off into the skies without you?  What’s even more sad is that, according to his website, he has sold just about all of his possessions to finance the launch.

Solar Powered iPhone
by: Sarah

New Solar iPhone

A couple of weeks ago Apple announced plans for a new iPhone.  Word is that they filed a patent to have solar cells on portable devices.

Outfitted with such technology, Apple’s devices, like the iPhone, could have photovoltaic cells stacked underneath LCD touch screens, thus maximizing the area available for harnessing the sun.

You’ll be able to see your device’s solar cells performance information on the main screen next to the battery power, text message alerts and clock.

One related product is the 6.4-ounce Solio Mg, $200, from Better Energy Systems. Its three magnesium blades fan out to reveal solar panels, which can store enough power to charge most phones and PDAs twice; an hour of clear sun will give most cell phones 25 minutes of talk time or an iPod an hour of playing time. It takes ten hours of direct sun to fully juice the device. (See Off The Grid But In The Game)

Also, the world’s first solar bag–the Voltaic Systems’ Generator laptop bag–is covered in solar cells and can charge a laptop. It generates up to 14.7 watts after a day of direct sunlight, can carry a 17-inch Apple Powerbook and comes with adapters that allow other electronics, such as cell phones, to be charged.

So go off-the-grid with Apple’s new patent, which is said to be out on the market with their new generation of iPhones.

Microsofts WorldWide Telescope
by: Sarah

Microsoft\'s WorldWide Telescope

Thanks to DS, I downloaded the program WorldWide Telescope.  This is similar to the idea of , but a little better put together.  For those taking Astronomy in college, like I did, then this program is just like that one you had to buy, you know, Starry Night.  Starry Night is $150 and lacks real Hubble images, so that is how they are set apart.

The WorldWide Telescope (WWT) is a rich visualization environment that functions as a virtual telescope, bringing together imagery from the best ground and space telescopes in the world for a seamless, guided exploration of the universe.

Obviously I played with the program for a little before I wrote this, so I’ll tell you a bit about it.  It has every constellation that you could ever think of.  It also has images of all the planets and moons in case that’s all you fancy.  Their easy tab system makes it so even an inexperienced astronomer can maneuver around this program and learn a thing or two.

There is a Guided Tours tab that takes you through a tour of nebulae, galaxies, planets, black holes, star clusters and tons of other good stuff.  You can search by name if you want or just wander the skies with your mouse.

Go check it out for yourself and you might just learn something.

Bear Grylls on Man vs. Wild eats raw meat
by: Sarah

I’m not a big fan of Bear Grylls on Man vs. Wild, but he does do some note worthy things in his show, like when he eats raw meat.  But I was not impressed with Bear after I saw this YouTube video a couple months ago, .  Honestly after that I don’t know why he even still has a fan base.

Most of Bear’s stunts are  stupid and over dramatic.  I watch Survivorman here and there, at least he doesn’t have a camera crew helping him on his stunts.

This video really grossed me out though.

Robert Murvaine on So You Think You Can Dance
by: Sarah

Holy crap I have never seen anything like this.  Robert Murvaine is the name of this remarkable person, and he has the best robot I have ever seen, seriously.  He showed up on So You Think You Can Dance and had the judges in awe of his moves, but cracking up at the same time.

His double jointed body is a little trippy but when he gets on his knees and “walks” backwards it is impressive.  If you watch until the end you’ll see him do a special bit for Nigel Lythgoe, the judge on the right if you didn’t know.  He is so intensely amazing, I am still shocked and awed.

David Cook does a Guitar Hero commercial
by: Sarah

This is for all you die-hard Cook fans out there in Kansas City, and whoever else likes him too.

I will admit though, his Risky Business Guitar Hero commercial was way better than Archuleta’s.  David Cook looked way better in the get up, and it actually made me laugh.

It doesn’t make me like him more, just makes me like the commercial.  Good Luck Cook.

Indiana Jones Lego Boudler
by: Sarah

In light of the new Indiana Jones film that came out yesterday, here is a group of friends who recreated the famous boulder chase scene with a gigantic Lego boulder.

I haven’t seen the flick but I heard it was decent.  I also heard that there is heavy hints towards Shia Leboeuf being the new Indy.

Since I haven’t seen the movie I cannot say anything good or bad, but I thought the video was fun, so enjoy!
