Aquos Large LCD Commercial - HP Style
by: DS

It’s only like those HP commercials in one way, the moving frames of content transferring over to the next…ok the Aquos is exactly like that, just bigger.

I still like the commercial, very cool with the black background, large LCD screens being held up and moved around.

Fresh From Japan - The High Tech gPod iVibrator
by: DS

This is a direct repost…i just wanted to do the image for this funny story, I guess Apple is not happy but lots of ladies will be:

THE Japanese love technology so much that now even sex toys are on the cutting edge.

The “gPod”, a phallic-shaped vibrator, is designed to respond automatically to sounds picked up by an accompanying handset, which can plug into anything from a telephone to a music player to a television.

The ¥25,000 ($243) gPod was one of a number of toys that went on public view today at Japan’s first-ever sex toy expo in suburban Tokyo.

“You can use it in many ways, for example hooking it up to your mobile phone,” said Ichiro Kameda, the machine’s inventor.

“The dildo vibrates through the same waves as a voice.
“So one of the ideas is that you can use it here in Tokyo when your boyfriend in New York is talking to you on the phone.”

Kameda said he had spent four years trying to design a product when he hit upon the concept.
He declined to say how the idea came to him.

Nearly 160 companies or groups are exhibiting products and services at the three-day Adult Treasure Expo 2007, including sex toys, sex machines, costumes and videos.

Here is another link for those interested parties, play that funky music and turn up the base (I wonder if Apple will include a special equalizer in the next version of the iPod to accommodate add-ons: iVibrator

ColorVision Monitor Calibration Tools | Spyder2Pro
by: DS

photo_s2e3_500Disclaimer: I don’t own one so my excitement is based on a reader from M2MHQ giving me a run down on how well it worked and from reading the site.

This is one of those products that has a niche audience but that audience (photographers, graphic designers…the list goes on) are very picky about the color correctness of the display(s).

Here is the one I WILL get soon:

Spyder2 Suite

The Professional’s Choice for Monitor Calibration
Professionals require exact color matching across all aspects of their workflow, and Spyder2PRO? delivers. The ability to calibrate to custom gamma and temperature settings, as well as perform RGB Pre-calibration offers the utmost control over the artistic process. With Spyder2PRO? you can create profiles to your specifications and distribute them to multiple monitor and remote computers, so others can view output exactly as you do. All of this, plus front projector calibration, custom response curve targeting, Ambient PreciseLight? and the first software-only printer profiling tool that gives fast and precise results.

Spyder2PRO? Offers all of the features of Spyder2 Suite? Plus: photo_s2pro1_500

  • Unlimited choices for Monitor Gamma and Temperature - Absolute control over color
  • Ambient PreciseLight? - Function Adjust profile settings to reflect different types of studio lighting
  • Custom Profile Creation - Create and share your profile with all displays you work with, including clients
  • Automated Black and White Luminance Adjustments - Provides for the most precise targeting and consistent calibration results
  • Multiple Display Type Capability - Calibrate all of your CRT, LCD and laptop displays or projectors
  • Easy Software Wizard - You don’t have to be a color expert to obtain perfect results

If you have multiple LCD screens on multiple computers, like I do, this is a must. Every advertising agency and design shop should have one. Maybe they do, it’s been a while since I worked at one.

Check out the site and if you have one, used one or know of something better, please sound off in comments.

Power Up Even In Coach - InFlight Power
by: DS

This is a very cool invention. I know it’s not a new idea and the story is a few weeks old but it’s still worth posting about.

From the Inflight Power site:

Simply by plugging in the cable to the passenger seat headset jack, the cable converts the audio output into regulated USB power.

Our new version adds an optional battery BOOST to increase the power supplied and offer continuous power. InFlight is designed to work on ALL first class seats AND business/coach class.

With the new battery BOOST feature you can charge anywhere, even while not traveling.

Apple iTV | School of Rock
by: DS

Cool design, good commercial and a interesting move into bridging the digital landscape of Apple software and devices.

I’m not sure if it will take off or not but an intriguing move in pushing iPods and iTunes.

If anyone out there has the system setup please comment.

Video Projection On Mist
by: DS

This Mist Billboard technology is pretty interesting when you add the touch screen (mist screen) in.

Any agency folks out there should check this one out.

The Future of Money
by: The Good Reverend

Coming soon to a mobile phone near you.

Great article by The Economist on the migration of money to our mobile devices.  I’m filing this post in the “Stuff that will be your future” category.  Not only is it more secure, it can have you through checkout in a couple seconds.

And as an addendum, I highly recommend checking out the rest of the Economist and signing up for their newsletters.  You simply won’t find more relevant (and mostly free!) information on the web.

Desktop Fabrication
by: Alex

Some upstart students at Cornell’s Computational Synthesis Lab have started a project called Fab@Home, which has designed a simple fabrication machine that can be built for about $2500.

Even though that sounds ridiculously expensive, commercial fabrication machines start in the tens of thousands, so the students think this could be the beginning of another home computing revolution.  They could be right.  Imagine being able to download new cell phone cases and print them out.  Your kid broke his retainer?  No problem, just print off another one.  Not to mention the explosion in unique gear we’d see when people could create their own perfect widgets.

The project is still in the hard-core hobbyist stage, and it will be a long time before we see one of these in every home, but I think they’re going in the right direction.  In fifteen years, I fully expect to see an Outlook worm that prints out a giant dildo when you open an email.  You heard it here first.

Zune | DJs
by: McPhee

This commercial for the Zune is a bit better than the last one we posted.

At least it gives the indication of the main differentiator; potential for the immediate sharing of music. Too much of the Zune marketing feels less like promoting a product than attempts at trying to be hip. I understand selling an emotional connection or a lifestyle over a physical ‘thing’ but you’ve got to get your audience to make the connection between that ‘thing’ and the image that they crave. Zune’s got so much potential. It might never be an ‘iPod killer’ but it could be a compelling piece of gadgetry if Microsoft can make it work like it should and then go after that ‘sharing’ niche as hard as they can.

See some other Zune posts here:

- Beam Your Beats

- Spinners

disclosure alert - I am employed by a company that does some Zune marketing. Personally, I have so little to do with the work that I can’t even tell you what it is.
